What's that vibration?

In the growing field of "energy medicine" it is well known that our universe is created through patterns of frequency.
Science is now documenting what mystics of many traditions have known forever. Everything that exists in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual realms vibrates.
All true healing interventions must influence the body by somehow altering its vibrational frequency. Healing is affected by sound, light, music, color, numerical ratios.......anything that alters our frequency patterns.
Even food, herbs, essential oils have vibration and their individual vibrations carry frequency which affects us in many ways.
This is easily understood when we remember that everything is pure energy….all of us, and all of the things that the Universe graces us with.
Everything is energy, and when the energy is out of balance, we have to know some of the things that bring it back into balance.
Whether it is our own body which is out of balance, or our earth, we have to know how to regain the vibration of creation and natural balance once again.

It ALL makes sense, doesn't it?  Well, it does to me........

More Sound, Less Fury…Drumming our Way to Health

Speaking of the healing effects of sound, let alone the health benefits of having fun,  I can affect my heartbeat, my blood pressure, my entire body’s systems as well as my entire mental state by simply creating a rhythmic pattern on a hand drum…….changing my vibration…..calming me or exciting me.
I find drumming my fingers in a rhythmic pattern to have a more relaxing effect than a steady, flat, palm rhythm.  I tend to think that is because of its resemblance to the sound of the rain at night as it falls on the skylight  above my bed.
Nevertheless, when I am looking for a great sense of release, the above-mentioned steady, flat, palm rhythm is far more enjoyable than that other favorite pastime many refer to as 'venting', but which most of us recognize as complaining-- unless of course, we are the ones doing the venting.  Trust me; it's still more fun beating on a drum, and will get us into a lot less trouble than actually beating on the person we feel inspired to vent about.  But I digress...
Drum therapy is an ancient approach that uses rhythm to promote healing and self-expression. Therapeutic rhythm techniques have been used for thousands of years to create and maintain physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Drumming reduces tension, anxiety, and stress.  It’s not my intention to speak for anyone else, but couldn’t you use just a little less tension, anxiety, and stress in your life too?
It  induces deep relaxation and even lowers blood pressure!
Drumming helps control chronic pain.  Ok, maybe those suffering from a migraine headache might differ with me, but you never know until you try……
Chronic pain has a progressively draining effect on quality of life. Drumming can serve as a distraction from pain—physical, mental, or emotional.
What’s more, drumming promotes the production of endorphins-- the body’s own morphine-like painkillers-- and can thereby help in the control of physical pain.

Drumming boosts the immune system, and it’s a lot more fun than taking a handful of pills everyday.
In fact, recent studies from The National Cancer Institute, claim that group drumming actually increases cancer-killing cells.  Group drumming tunes our biology, orchestrates our immunity, and enables healing to begin on many levels.
Drumming produces a deeper self-awareness.  In this day of trying to serve too many masters, and therefore serving none (at least no particular one very well), we could all use a little more self-awareness.
The physical transmission of rhythmic energy synchronizes the two hemispheres of the brain. When the logical left hemisphere and the intuitive right hemisphere begin to pulsate in harmony, our inner guidance begins to flow unimpeded.
Drumming accesses the entire brain and has been used successfully for ADD and ADHD, autism, and Alzheimers’.  It has positively affected emotionally disturbed teens, recovering addicts, trauma patients, and prison and homeless populations.
Drumming is a valuable treatment for stress, fatigue, anxiety, hypertension, asthma, chronic pain, arthritis, mental illness, migraines, cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, paralysis, emotional disorders, and a wide range of physical disabilities.
Need I say more? I’ve enjoyed taking this opportunity to drum some sense into you, because it ALL makes sense to me !!

A Healthy Lifestyle? Fun? Are you kidding me?

Well, it sounds true!
Ask most people if they live a holistic lifestyle, and they will almost immediately respond with “Yes, I take my vitamins.”  Or…. “Sure, I eat well” , or maybe they will add “I exercise faithfully everyday”…..as though to say that is all there is to a holistic lifestyle.
Ask most people if they have fun living their holistic lifestyle, and expect a few blank stares, as though fun and lifestyle are in no way related.
And lastly, ask most people if they realize how many of the various arts and recreational practices dating back thousands of years actually contribute to their health and well-being, and they will seldom see a connection between anything they do in their lives today, and anything that anybody else ever did.
I would like to take the opportunity to discuss some of the centuries-old “therapies” that are commonly used today, just as they were among the ancient Egyptians, traditional Asian healers, Native American Shamans, as well as Hippocrates himself, the father of modern day Western medicine.
They are sound, music, color, light, and numerical vibration…and they are fun.  I bring a lot of fun into my healing work, because that too is vibration-raising.  Who doesn’t know that laughter is the best medicine?
Today, I’m going to open a discussion about sound and how different types of sound and music affect us in different ways.
Before the beginning,  all that existed, was Pure Energy…or The One Source…or to most of us: God….  and God was non-dual. So…God thought, "I am only one – now may I become many." And this caused a vibration which eventually became sound, and that sound was Ohm. Creation itself was set in motion by the vibration of Ohm.
Some say the original translation of the scripture: “IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD” is " actually:  “IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE SOUND.”  Or “IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE VIBRATION”.
We have used musical sound largely as entertainment in the past.  Sound therapy explores the very real and positive effects sound can have upon all of us, and its potential to heal.
Music is one of the most powerful healing forces available to us today.
Waltz music rhythms can ease indigestion.
Classical and baroque music is good for the heart.
Did you know that a French minuet can help ease respiratory problems?
Those of us over 40 tend to respond more physically to jazz music.  It is no accident that some of the steamier scenes in the movies have a background of saxophone music, a vibration which very closely resonates with our most basic instincts.
The under 40 crowd will respond more readily to guitar music for the simple reason that their lower vibrations are less mature and therefore resonate to a ‘twangier’ sound.
The Native American flute raises our higher senses, opening us up to insight, intuition, and a greater spiritual awareness.
Sound, is the vibration that makes up language, music, and tone. When it is organized, we communicate words, ideas, feelings, and expressions. In its disorganized form, it is merely noise.
We all listen in different ways.
When rhythm, melody, and harmony are organized into beautiful forms, the mind, body, spirit, and emotions are brought toward harmony.
We know the power of sound and music, and we know also that the voice changes with emotional states or illness. Our health or mood can be strongly affected by music, toning, chanting, singing, and drumming.
Dr. Masaru Emoto, who wrote “The Hidden Messages in Water”, did research for 10 years on frozen water crystals.
He would expose natural water to various sounds, words, tones, and music, then freeze the water and photograph the resulting crystals.  What he discovered was amazing.
The most beautiful crystals were those which were exposed to the words “love” and “gratitude”……to the music of Mozart and Handel’s Messiah.
The least attractive, and downright ugly crystals were the result of words such as “war”, “hate”, “stupid”, and the sounds of heavy metal music.  His book contains all of his photographs and is an easy weekend read.  I strongly recommend it for understanding the effects of sound vibration.
Perhaps, dear reader, you will take a quick look at that book and I won’t feel so much like I’m talking to “most people”, but to you, who in all your wonderful wisdom, understands that the connection between health and sound is very real, very therapeutic, and most of all, very fun!
And, after that….we can talk about color.... and light.... and art....and of course their place in the holistic lifestyle.
It all makes sense to me!
